(KNSI) – The American Red Cross is offering a special incentive for people to roll up their sleeves and give blood during National Blood Donor Month.

Anyone who makes a blood donation to the Red Cross in January is automatically entered into a drawing for a pair of tickets to Super Bowl LVII in Phoenix, AZ, on February 12th. Local American Red Cross Executive Director Linda Blackmore says this month is a time to thank their donors. “We just want to honor those who have rolled up their sleeves to help patients in need for us. Winter months can be excessively difficult to collect enough blood and meet the patient needs because we’re slower in the winter months.”

Blackmore says those who take the time and brave the cold can save a life. “I’m sure everybody at one point in time in their life has known somebody that has needed blood for one reason or another. And if our blood supply isn’t there, we can’t help those people at that particular time. And those people that come in and donate help us be able to do that.”

National Blood Donor Month has been celebrated every year since 1970.
