(KNSI) – A man accused of attempting to stab a man in St. Cloud has admitted to the crime.

Faysal Isaac Ibrahim pleaded guilty to one count of 5th-degree assault. He was initially charged with 2nd-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. The plea deal calls for him to be sentenced to 90 days in jail stayed for a year, meaning he won’t serve any more jail time unless he is convicted of another similar crime. He must also undergo a mental health evaluation. The 28-year-old will appear before Judge Andrew Pearson on February 27th.

According to the criminal complaint, Ibrahim approached the victim as he walked into the Kwik Trip on Division Street. The victim told investigators that Ibrahim asked him for money, and he responded by telling Ibrahim to get a job. The victim bought his items, and as he left the store, Ibrahim allegedly pulled a knife on him. The victim says he ran but tripped in the parking lot. Ibrahim reportedly got on top of him and tried to stab him multiple times.

The victim says he was able to fend off the stabbing attempts and suffered cuts on several areas of his body. Police say Ibrahim was also injured and treated for a cut to his hand.

Police say Ibrahim was interviewed at the hospital and admitted to getting into a fight with the victim and attempting to stab him.
