(KNSI) – St. Cloud will honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King over three days later this month.

This year’s theme is “Our Beloved Community: The Courage to Celebrate Diversity.” The 11th annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration kicks off Saturday, January 14th at 9:30 a.m. with family activities and the winners of the 9th Annual Dexter R. Stanton Essay and visual arts contest. The event runs until noon at St. Cloud Technical and Community College.

On Sunday, January 15th, black churches will be honored for their role in the civil rights movement. The day also provides opportunities for worship between various local faith communities. An event will be held at Jubilee Church from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The main event is the MLK Breakfast on Monday, January 17th, from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the River’s Edge Convention Center in St. Cloud. The morning will start with chicken and waffles and will feature a special thanks and acknowledgment of public works professionals, a community service project and the announcement of this year’s MLK Humanitarian Award winners.

The keynote speaker at breakfast is Osheta Moore. She is an author, pastor and public speaker. Her book, Dear White Peacemakers, was written in the wake of George Floyd’s death. The community event had over 1,600 attendees in 2022.
