(KNSI) — A bill to name post offices in Minnesota after three national guardsmen killed in a helicopter crash near St. Cloud has now made it through both houses of Congress.

The Senate passed a bill this week to remember the lives of Chief Warrant Officer Charles Nord, Chief Warrant Officer James Rogers, and Warrant Officer Candidate Kort Plantenberg, who died on December 5th, 2019, when their helicopter experienced engine failure. The House of Representatives did so last week.

The bills were a bipartisan effort. They were authored and introduced in the House by Minnesota’s Sixth District Congressman Republican Tom Emmer and Seventh District Representative Michelle Fischbach. In the Upper Chamber, the legislation was taken up by Democratic senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith.

Klobuchar talked about coming together across the aisle in support of the measures. She says, “Thank you to Representatives Emmer and Fischbach for leading this effort in the House.”

Smith says the men are “well deserving of this honor, and they will be remembered by Minnesotans for the sacrifice they made.”

The bill is now on its way to the president’s desk for signing.
