(KNSI) — St. Cloud State University is reducing the cost of its on-campus housing starting next fall.

SCSU says the cost of on-campus housing will be slashed by 15% come fall of 2023, and incentives for students to sign up include a free summer of housing on campus.

Personnel from Student Affairs conducted listening sessions and conversations with the Student Government Association to learn about student preferences and concerns. The results showed the students liked the convenience of living on campus, but they were facing hurdles when it came to affordability. National trends were also studied and showed students who live on campus are more likely to engage, access campus resources, and build a network that supports their path to success.

No other school in the Minnesota State System has reduced housing costs.

New students who sign a housing agreement before March 31st can live on campus in the summer of 2024 at no additional cost. Current students who sign a housing agreement before January 31st can also get free on-campus housing for the summer of 2023.

Among the amenities on-campus housing includes are free laundry, high-speed wireless access with secure wireless access for gamers, secured package delivery, card-controlled building access, front desk attendants and free appliance use such as vacuums and cooking supplies and optional meal plans for current and returning students.
