(KNSI) — Wednesday, December 21st, is the last day for drivers to offer their thoughts on solutions and provide feedback for future safety and access needs along the Highway 10 corridor from 15th Avenue Southeast in St. Cloud and Highway 24 in Clear Lake.

According to the project website, the Minnesota Department of Transportation says the study has narrowed design options down to six. With public feedback, the options will be narrowed down to three in each cost category; low, medium and high. All options improve safety, mobility and access, provide acceleration lanes, reduce the number of intersections and decrease the risk of collisions. MnDOT says, in general, the higher the cost, the more intersections close, the more local trips are rerouted off the highway, and the lower risk of collisions, but the harder it is to fit into current funding sources.

MnDOT officials say they have already been made aware of issues from drivers and users, such as a lack of acceleration lanes, narrow shoulders, short turn lanes, frequent traffic jams, especially in the summer months, slick spots in the winter, and trains causing backups and blockages.
