(KNSI) – Bills to name post offices in Minnesota after three national guardsmen killed in a helicopter crash near St. Cloud have made it through the House.
The legislative body passed a bill to remember the lives of Chief Warrant Officer Charles Nord (left), Chief Warrant Officer James Rogers (right), and Warrant Officer Candidate Kort Plantenberg (center), who died on December 5th, 2019, when their helicopter experienced engine failure.
U.S. Congressman Tom Emmer sponsored a bill to name the post office in Avon after Plantenberg. He was born in St. Cloud in 1991 and raised in Avon. He graduated from Albany Area High School and the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
District Seven Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach proposed a bill to name the post office in Perham after Nord and the one in Winsted after Rogers.
“We can never honor our fallen the way they truly deserve. But every step we can take is a meaningful one,” said Fischbach as she spoke from the House floor before the vote was taken.
The bill passed off the House floor on Wednesday.
