(KNSI) — A house fire Sunday night in Rice is under investigation.

According to the fire chief, a neighbor on the 9900 block of Ferry Point Place called 911 at about 6:30 after noticing flames coming from the back side of the home. When crews arrived, the house was fully engulfed. The family was not there when the fire started, and their dog did not survive.

The Minnesota State Fire Marshal, Benton County Sheriff’s Department and Rice Fire Department are investigating, and they say they believe the fire may have started in the lower level.

The Rice Fire Department was assisted by the Sauk Rapids Fire Department, Sartell Fire Department, Royalton Fire Department, Benton County Sheriff’s Department and Mayo Ambulance.
