(KNSI) — St. Cloud area Senator Aric Putnam has been selected for his first chairman position.

When the legislature reconvenes in January, Putnam will chair the Senate Agriculture and Rural Development Committee.

He said he is “honored and excited to serve as Chair” because “The success of Greater Minnesota is essential to the success of our entire state and passing policies that strengthen the communities and citizens of those communities will be my highest priority in this role. I look forward to taking on this new opportunity and promise to put the needs of Minnesotans above politics.”

Senator Putnam was first elected to the Minnesota Senate in 2020 and was re-elected to the Minnesota Senate in 2022, beating long time House Representative Tama Theis.

Putnam previously served on the Aging and Long-Term Care Policy Committee, the Higher Education Finance and Policy Committee, and the Jobs and Economic Growth Finance and Policy Committee.

The next session begins on January 3rd.
