(KNSI) — The St. Cloud Area School District’s Local Education and Activities Foundation says it received tremendous support, $250 at a time, from the community for its Adopt a Classroom drive.
The program works by individuals such as parents, grandparents, businesses, or organizations adopting the classroom for $250. Executive Director Bruce Hentges says LEAF then is the conduit for those funds, of which 100% will purchase supplies for that classroom. “We raised over $42,000 in this project this year, and I believe that’s 168 or 169 classrooms.”
Hentges says, “it’s so motivating for me to see the way the community does respond and has allowed us to build a healthy endowed fund from which we can give grants each year.” Roughly one-third of the money goes to the endowed funds with the Community Foundation. The other two-thirds, Hentges says, is given out through special projects like the Adopt a Classroom effort.
LEAF held the Learning Rennaisance, which is for the academic fund, and within that is a focused fund a need auction. This year, LEAF chose the elementary music program. They raised $25,000 for ukeleles for students.
The LEAF Night of Stars is also coming back this year following a two year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event is set for February 10th and 11th at the new Tech High School auditorium.
