(KNSI) – A St. Cloud priest has been put on leave after being accused of inappropriate behavior.

The Diocese says questions and concerns regarding potential actions by Father Joe Herzing were recently brought to the attention of church officials. Father Herzing served at Christ Church Newman Center on St. Cloud State University’s Campus and St. Anthony of Padua church in St. Cloud.

In a statement sent to KNSI News, Bishop Donald Kettler said Father Herzing agreed to take time off and undergo a professional evaluation per diocesan protocols. In the meantime, Father Robert Harren will serve as administrator of Father Herzing’s parishes.

The Bishop says he will provide more information when he can. Bishop Kettler asks people to keep Father Herzing and all those impacted in their prayers.

Father Herzing grew up on a dairy farm in Milaca. He graduated from Metro State University with a degree in History and went to seminary at St. John’s University and the University of St. Thomas. He was previously assigned to the parishes in Little Falls.
