(KNSI) – Stearns Bank and KNSI sister station Lite FM’s winter clothing drive was a huge success.
Almost 200 coats were donated by area residents, in addition to boots, gloves, scarves, snow pants, and 130 hats. The clothing items will be given to District 742 for its transitional education services program, which caters to homeless students.
Over 700 students enrolled in local schools are projected to live in a temporary or inadequate space, including at a friend’s or relative’s home, at some point this year. Superintendent Dr. Laurie Putnam says the number has been steadily rising for the better part of a decade, fueled recently by the pandemic.
The drive took place on October 8th at the Stearns Bank location on 2nd Street South in St. Cloud. Drop boxes were also available for the entire month inside Stearns Bank and at the Leighton Broadcasting studios at the Radio City Music Mall on West. St. Germain Street.
