(KNSI) — Three people have been arrested for their alleged roles in stealing semi-trailer loads of frozen beef in a multi-million dollar theft ring covering several Midwestern states, including Minnesota.

According to the Lancaster County, Nebraska Sheriff’s Office, they began looking into the thefts in June and initially believed the losses were around $1 million. A deeper look, thanks to the sheriff’s office and Homeland Security investigators in Omaha, which began in June of 2021, uncovered approximately 45 thefts in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, totaling $9 million. Investigators say a Miami-based, highly sophisticated organized criminal enterprise targeted beef and pork packaging plants.

On October 20th, three people were arrested, and three tractor-trailers were recovered. Authorities say the stolen merchandise totaled $550,000. Yoslany Leyva Del Sol, Ledier Machin Andino and Delvis L. Fuentes are facing charges for transportation of stolen goods and money laundering.

The investigation is ongoing.
