(KNSI) – The Stearns County Parks Department is putting on the Fall Family Fling at Quarry Park on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The event is a collaborative effort with several public agencies, nonprofit organizations, and assorted groups taking part. Parks Operation Coordinator Sarah Weed says that means there will be a lot of different activities for the whole family.
“We’ll have St. Cloud Disc Golf. We’ll have the Soil and Water Conservation District and some people doing some demonstrations on slacklining so kids can try that out. Also, the Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center will be there with their mobile rock climbing wall.”
The fun will stretch between the parking lot and Quarry 11, about a third of a mile away. Weed says it is a nice bookend after holding a similar event in the springtime.
Another focus is crafts.
“One of my favorite things to do when I was younger was to make pine cone bird feeders and we’ll help adults and kids, where they’ll be able to spread peanut butter on a pine cone, roll it in birdseed, and then take it home hanging up on a tree. And fingers crossed the birds get to it before the squirrels,” says Wood.
Buckthorne necklace making will also be available. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says the area is nearing peak color, which should provide the perfect setting for an outdoor autumn festival.
