(KNSI) – The Stearns History Museum is hosting a new event designed to be fun and informative for small groups.

The first escape room/mission to moonshine evenings are coming to the museum on the first four Thursdays in December. Officials say the idea was discussed a couple of years ago and is now coming to fruition.

Museum Program Director Caitlin Carlson says they will clear out an area to set up an escape room with a 1920s theme. “Everybody loves to hear about bootlegging and bootleggers. And the moonshine and the moonshine makers here in Stearns County. So that is what the theme is.”

The museum did an exhibit about Minnesota 13 moonshine a few years ago, and they still get people asking about the unique local spirit today. “We’re basically inspired by the Minnesota 13 story, which was popular years ago. We still get a lot of questions about it. So, we thought we’d lean into an era and a topic that people really associate Stearns County with.”

Minnesota 13 was made throughout rural Stearns County, but it was most common around the Holdingford area.

The escape room/mission moonshine evenings are on December 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd at the museum. The cost is $20 for non-members and $15 for museum members. Groups are limited to six at a time. Reservations are required.
