(KNSI) — The United Way of Central Minnesota is hosting a Lights On Afterschool event to raise awareness about after school programming and how it helps students.

According to a press release, Lights On Afterschool is a project of the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that all young people have access to quality, affordable after school programs.

Tuesday, October 18th, Great River Regional Library in St. Cloud will display area after school participants’ lightbulb artwork to show how after school programs “light up” young people’s lives and will feature work from over 11 afterschool sites across central Minnesota.

The Southside Boys & Girls Clubs’ Lights on Afterschool program is set for Thursday, October 20th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for kindergarten through 12th grade students and their families. Resources will be available from United Way of Central Minnesota, Anna Marie’s Alliance, St. Cloud Area School District 742, CentraCare Health and the St. Cloud Rotary Richard C. Wilson Community Outpost (COP House), among other organizations. That night, the City of St. Cloud will also light the southside water tower near Clearwater Road in yellow.
