College Football

The Johnnies cruised past Augsburg on Saturday, 45-0. The result was good enough to boost St. John’s to fifth in the Division III poll.

Quarterback Aaron Syverson had himself a game. He was 18-30 through the air for 214 yards and two touchdowns. He ran for another, gaining 78 yards on five attempts. Henry Trost rumbled in for two TD’s and Troy Feddema added another on the ground. Jimmy Buck was the top receiver, hauling in seven catches for 94 yards and a score.

Augsburg managed less than 250 yards of total offense.

College Volleyball

Saint Cloud State University volleyball went 2-1 for the week. They dropped a close five-set decision to UMD on Tuesday night.

The team bounced back for a weekend sweep. The Huskies downed Upper Iowa 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 27-25, 25-18) thanks to 16 kills from Phebie Rossi and Kenzie Foley. Emma Berran notched 53 assists.

Saturday’s match against Winona State looked eerily similar. St. Cloud dropped the first set, but came back to take the next three in the victory, 21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-16. Linsey Rachel had 19 kills and 12 digs. Kenzie Foley added 10 kills and 13 digs in the win.

College Soccer

The SCSU men’s team had a successful road trip, picking up a win and a tie in the Great Lakes region. On Friday, the Huskies downed Purdue Northwest, 3-2, behind two goals from Owen Worsdell. He opened the scoring in the 30th minute and added an exclamation point to end it. Worsdell scored just 31 seconds after Purdue Northwest had deadlocked the game at two. His tally in the 81st minute was the deciding goal.

The team was up by two goals at halftime Sunday, but couldn’t hold the lead against Davenport University in Michigan. Nolan Pratumwon and Philip Caputo scored for the Huskies. The final was 2-2.

The women’s team was at home, where they lost to Minnesota State 2-1 on Friday. Megan Kirby scored for the Huskies, but Minnesota State was able to break the tie in the 86th minute.

SCSU and Concordia-St. Paul tied 0-0 on Sunday. The two teams combined for only seven shots on net.

High School Volleyball

ROCORI, Sartell, and Sauk Rapids all participated in the St. Michael-Albertville tournament Friday or Saturday. ROCORI went 1-4. The Spartans beat North St. Paul (2-0) in their opening match. They then fell to Wayzata (0-2), Annandale (0-2), Waconia (1-2), and Sartell (0-2).

The Sabres tacked on another win against Legacy Christian (2-0). Sartell-St. Stephen fell to Rogers (0-2), Minnetonka (1-2), Pequot Lakes (0-2).

Sauk Rapids-Rice went 3-2 on Saturday. The Storm secured wins against Rob Armstrong (2-0), Bemidji (2-0), and North Saint Paul (2-0). The team lost three-set decisions to Woodbury and Delano.
