(KNSI) — Our long streak of falling gas prices is officially over.

AAA says the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded has climbed nearly five cents in the last week after almost 100 days of downward trends. Experts say fluctuating oil prices and a tighter supply led to the increase. Worries about now Hurricane Ian heading into the Gulf of Mexico could also cause production slowdowns, but forecasters say the storm is expected to churn eastward and turn away from the oil fields.

As of Monday, the national average for regular is around $3.73. In Minnesota, it’s about $3.69, but in St. Cloud, it’s much lower at about $3.56. That’s down two cents from Sunday but up six cents from a week ago. Diesel is at $4.61, down a penny from Sunday and down seven cents from a week ago.

Regular unleaded and diesel both hit record highs this summer, topping out at around $4.77 and $5.55, respectively.
