(KNSI) – Officials with a mosque in St. Cloud targeted by vandals are thanking the community for its support. The attack left $15,000 to $20,000 in damage.

At a press conference on Thursday, Islamic Center of St. Cloud Imam Mohamed Nuh Dahir talked to those in attendance.

“The reason I stand up is to say first, thank you. All of you for your time for your support and everything.”

He thanked the St. Cloud Police Department’s work in catching the suspects.

“I am saying to them, thank for that job they did. And we will also want to know more. To get to the reason behind the attack because this is a house of worship.”

On September 8th, two people broke into the Islamic center, damaged several doors and ceiling tiles, and disrespectfully handled Korans and scriptures.

Both suspects were arrested within hours of the incident and have been charged. The Council on American Islamic Relations held the press conference and said this incident was the fifth attack on a mosque in Minnesota in 2022. CAIR says that’s the most in the nation, ahead of California with three incidents.
