Cragun’s Hosts Professional Golf Tournament

(KNSI) – For the first time ever, the PGA Tour Canada is swinging through an American town.

Cragun’s CRMC Championship Tournament Director Jack Wawro says he started counting down 190 days out, as an effort to keep on track. Still, the competition even managed to sneak up on him given all of the work necessary before anyone tees off just to make a prestigious tournament happen.

“It’s been a lot of work. It’s crazy the amount of preparation that goes into it from the volunteer, the sponsor side, the PGA Tour Canada side, our resort side and we’re learning as we go. As we speak today, even as we’ve started [playing], we’re learning.”

Wawro says this weekend is already helping to raise the course’s profile, both regionally and across the state.

“The exposure coming from this for us has been just terrific, so far. We’re in the middle of a full golf course renovation and expansion. That alone has kind of given us, you know, some new eyes. This only showcases that more. It showcases the area for sure.

The competition has already teed off. It will wrap on Sunday.

Wawro says the course renovation was designed by Tom Lehman and about 80 percent of the players are American. It gives the championship a homey feel, even though it is a Canadian tour event.
