(KNSI) – As colleges begin the fall semester and the Labor Day holiday looms, law enforcement is stepping up efforts to stop impaired driving.
Agencies and departments at the state, county, and local levels will be adding patrols looking for DWI offenders. If convicted, you could potentially lose your license for a year and spend thousands of dollars in court costs and fines.
Law enforcement says driving while high on narcotics is on the rise and is just as serious as if you were drunk. The patrols continue until September 5th. THC edibles are now legal, but it is still illegal to drive after consuming them or other legal prescriptions that affect motor skills.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says to arrange alternative transportation rather than get behind the wheel. It also encourages people to volunteer as a designated driver for their friends and peers.
