(KNSI) – The State of Minnesota added 19,100 jobs in July, according to the Department of Employment and Economic Development.
A majority of the gains came from manufacturing, construction, and leisure and hospitality. St. Cloud area businesses have hired over 3,000 people in the past year, expanding faster than similar sized metros like Rochester and Fargo-Moorhead.
State officials acknowledge momentum seems to be slowing, though. DEED says around 4,000 Minnesotans dropped out of the labor force last month and are no longer looking for work.
The decline in the labor force participation rate mirrors trends seen nationally and potentially signifies a perception among job seekers that opportunities are beginning to disappear.
Governor Tim Walz is touting the job gains. He says, “Minnesotans across the state are seeing more job opportunities than ever before. We are growing jobs and expanding our economy at a record-breaking pace. As Minnesotans continue to see global uncertainty and rising costs, these numbers demonstrate that Minnesota’s economy has a strong foundation.”
The unemployment rate is unchanged at 1.8%.
