(KNSI) – We are less than a week away from the Monarch Migration Fair, being hosted at the Minnesota Native Landscapes’ Foley facility. Ecological Products Consultant Bre Bauerly explains that the company restores various habitats commonly found in the state.
“We provide a wide range of services from prescribed burning, vegetation management, grazing of goats and sheep to construction services, things like excavating, dozing, and seed installation.
One of the plants the company grows is the Meadow Blazing Star, which has earned itself the nickname ‘nectar of the Monarch butterfly.’ The public is welcome to take in the sight as hundreds of the creatures touch down to eat and rest, part of their long journey to Mexico for the winter.
Bauerly says this is the third time MNL has teamed up with Monarch Joint Venture to hold a larger event open to the public. The organizations have worked together for a long time, though, in an informal way.
“This Meadow Blazing Star is a flower that we grow for seed production in our fields that is particularly attractive to the Monarch butterflies. And so, for their group as Monarch Joint Venture being so interested in Monarchs, we invited them to see how they gather in this really large number. And of course, they all thought it was amazing.”
