(KNSI) – The City of Sartell is looking into whether a new hotel is justified. Engagement Director Nikki Sweeter says two primary factors are leading staff to conduct the study. The first is sports.
“Our youth athletics [are] booming, with the new Scheel’s Athletic Complex and Pinecone Central Park, and things just kind of naturally gravitating towards the Sartell Community Center. Our council is really just kind of curious if there is demand for another hotel.”
Another factor according to Sweeter is the difficulty in finding places to house construction crews.
“The other thing we had talked about was the commercial development going on. There’s lots of construction workers here during the week. We are definitely seeing an uptick in our weekday stays at our current hotels.”
Crews then go home on the weekend to be with their family.
Sweeter says Sartell is a smaller market. To entice development, they must have a feasibility study completed that affirms the need for a hotel before a project can begin to take shape.
