(KNSI) – A man has been sentenced for shooting an assault rifle at a man in St. Cloud.

Christopher Omar Murry pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. He was sentenced by Judge Mary Mahler to two and a half years in prison with credit for 12 days in jail.

As part of the deal, prosecutors dropped charges of first-degree burglary, fleeing a peace officer and being a convicted felon in possession of a gun.

On March 10th, 2021, the 34-year-old Murry got into an argument with a man in the Go For It Gas parking lot in the 1000 block of 9th Avenue South. Murry pointed an AR-15 rifle at the victim and fired multiple shots. The victim wasn’t hit and fled the scene.

Murry jumped into his SUV and drove away as police arrived. Murry fled onto Univesity Drive and crashed his SUV into a retaining wall. He got out of the vehicle and ran from the crash.

A responding officer saw Murry walking in the 600-block of 7th Avenue South and attempted to arrest him. Murry ran into a nearby house, where police arrested him. The homeowners didn’t know who Murry was and said he didn’t have permission to be in the home.

Murry was previously convicted in 2015 for aggravated use of a weapon in Lake County, Illinois.
