(KNSI) – The marathon known as the Major League Baseball draft was earlier this week. Over three days, clubs selected players through 20 rounds. Several of those picks have a local tie.

Seven former St. Cloud Rox players were welcomed to the podium in Los Angeles. Andrew Pintar took to Joe Faber Field in 2020 and was chosen in the fifth round by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Pintar played in 33 Northwoods League games, batting .267 and scoring 21 times.

The Washington Nationals took Riley Cornelio in the seventh round. Cornelio toed the rubber as a starter last year, fanning 58. In the first game of the postseason, he whiffed 14 Mankato Moondog batters, a franchise record.

Caleb Ricketts also went in the seventh round, selected by the Philadelphia Phillies. Rickets was an All-Star last year for the Rox. He had 35 RBI’s.

Nate Peterson spent two summers at the Rock Pile, taking the mound in 2020 and 2021. His last game as a pitcher with St. Cloud was a dandy. Peterson struck out twelve in six innings of work. Peterson was taken by the Milwaukee Brewers in the eighth round.

Dylan Nedved only played for the Rox in four games but he got the call from the San Diego Padres Monday in the ninth round.

Drew Garrett was taken by Philadelphia in the 19th round. Brendan Tinsman went to the Los Angeles Angels in the same frame, rounding out the Rox contingent.
