(KNSI) – State Representative Heather Edelson is engaging in informational meetings with local officials and the League of Minnesota Cities about the recent THC edibles bill.
Heather Edelson of the DFL authored the controversial provision. She says the products are legal, but still subject to regulations. Edelson says THC edibles could have many of the same restrictions levied on them that are placed on tobacco sales at the local level. She is encouraging municipal boards overseeing smoke and liquor shops to add stores selling THC-infused baked goods and drinks to their responsibilities.
The THC edibles bill that took effect last week in Minnesota does not place restrictions on vendors looking to sell the products, which provides municipalities with an opportunity to fill the void. Edelson specifically cites zoning restrictions as one such possibility. Changes could ensure that cannabis businesses are not located near churches or schools. Similar local powers are commonly used in other states where THC products and marijuana have been legalized at the medicinal or recreational level.
