(KNSI) – Sartell High School baseball’s first AAAA postseason tournament has gone better than anyone could have hoped for. The team is 4-0, outscoring their opponents 30-10 in the sectional phase. Now the state tournament looms, beginning on Tuesday at CHS Field in St. Paul.

Head Coach Jerome Nemanich appeared on the Saturday Sports Special, which airs at 6 a.m. on KNSI, hours before the brackets had been released. He said his team is prepared for any potential opponent.

“We feel we can beat anyone that we’re gonna get matched up against. We’re probably going to be unseeded, which means we’re looking at probably Farmington, Stillwater, or Andover…[they] look to be the top three teams right now.”

Nemanich got it exactly right and the luck of the draw has the Sabres set to take on #2 Stillwater. Nemanich said he thinks a trip to Target Field for the championship game is possible.

“The kids have put together their best baseball at the last part of the season and we expected to be pretty good this year. We knew we had a chance and things are starting to fall in the right place for us,” he said.

Stillwater is also 4-0 in the postseason and has won by impressive margins. They have beat up their opponents, scoring 41 runs and allowing only five. The Ponies finished atop the Suburban East Conference in the regular season, going 14-4. They have an overall record of 20-4.

The game begins at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. It will be broadcast on KNSI.
