(KNSI) – The hits keep coming on the ice for the Saint Cloud State University Men’s Hockey Team, in the form of checks and winning seasons. The program is doing well off the ice too, announcing $1.8 million in new gifts.
Most of the funds, $1.3 million, will go towards facility improvements at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. A new sound system and video boards will be installed before the puck drops on the 2022-23 season in October.
The upgrades have been in the works for years. Vice President of University Advancement Matt Andrew says, “These improvements to The Herb were envisioned a decade ago, which made them an institutional priority in our Unleash the Future campaign for St. Cloud State.”
A $500,000 gift from Henry and Angelena Blattner’s Foundation 94 is earmarked for operations. The most significant change will be a new strength and conditioning coach. Mental health and leadership building programs are also included.
