(KNSI) – Stearns County Highway Department crews are completing work to help prolong the life of area roads. Sealcoating will be done when weather allows until June 10th, causing the occasional lane closure.
Asphalt uses oil-based tar to bind loose rock, gravel, and stone together. That agent degrades over time as it is exposed to sunlight and rain. Sealcoating helps protect the tar from crumbling too quickly, leading to frequent, costly repairs.
County Road 75 will be affected along two stretches, including between the Sauk River Bridge in Waite Park and I-94 west of St. Joseph, as well as between Kuhn Drive and 600 feet south of 33rd Street South.
The other work centers around Highway 15. County Road 1 will see lane closures until just past Heritage Drive. County Road 120 has work scheduled between Connecticut Avenue and 200 feet east of Highway 15.
The Highway Department recommends finding an alternate route. If you have to travel through the work zone, slow down and obey any posted advisories.
