(KNSI) – Political races are set for November’s general election in most cases. Some will require an August primary to whittle candidates down. Only one is still changing.
A surprise withdrawal by incumbent Jeff Mergen has reduced the number of people seeking the Stearns County Board of Commissioners slot from the Third District to one. Minnesota law requires a special filing period to occur under such a scenario. Anyone eligible and interested in the position will have five days to submit paperwork at the Stearns County Courthouse in St. Cloud. Applications are due by 5:00 PM on Monday, June 6th.
Correction: District 3 comprises the southeastern portion of Stearns County, including St. Augusta. The original version described District 5.
Mergen gave no reason for dropping out of the race.
