(KNSI) – The Minnesota State Patrol will be out in extra force all summer long starting Memorial Day weekend as the unofficial kickoff to summer marks the start of what they call “the 100 deadliest days” for traffic fatalities in Minnesota.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety says 2021 was the deadliest summer for travelers since 2007, with 179 fatalities between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day.
Law enforcement agencies will be stepping up patrols throughout the summer, with an emphasis on seatbelt compliance from now until June 6th, preventing reckless driving in the month of July, and curtailing drunk driving in the weeks leading up to Labor Day.
