ROCORI Holding Meeting on Superintendent Search, Building Renovations

(KNSI) — The ROCORI Board of Education is having a special meeting Monday at 6:30 PM at the district office to explain what is next in the search for a new superintendent. The group decided at the May 16th regular session to not offer a job to the lone finalist. They had whittled down a roster of ten applicants to just Danita Stepan, current superintendent with the Thief River Falls School District in northwestern Minnesota.

ROCORI has had an interim head since February. Former superintendent Brad Kelvington announced then that he would be stepping down at the end of the school year. The board instead decided to make the change immediately. Kelvington had led the district since 2018.

The absence at the top has not kept the school board from ambitious projects. They are putting two referendums before voters in August. If approved, ROCORI will issue $72.75 million in general obligation bonds to fund upgrades at various facilities. Improvements are planned for three elementary schools, the middle school/high school campus, the district office, and in career and technical education.

Stepan informed the Thief River Falls District in March that she would be leaving when this academic year concludes.
