(KNSI) — The best season in St. Cloud Norsemen history came to an end Saturday. The club dropped the first two games in a best-of-three series to the Anchorage Wolverines in the Robertson Cup semi-final round.
St. Cloud dominated Game One, outshooting Anchorage 49-21. They couldn’t solve Wolverine goalie Raythan Robbins, though. Forward Blake Perbix got the lone Norse goal. His tally tied the game at one a little more than halfway through the first period. It would stay that way until overtime. Jackson Reinecke notched the game winner at the 8:53 mark. St. Cloud was 0-4 on the power play. They had two opportunities in extra time with the man-advantage.
Saturday’s Game Two was a completely different animal. The Wolverines jumped out to a 3-1 advantage after one period of play. St. Cloud was able to get the only lamplighter of the second period and trailed 3-2 heading into the final frame. Anchorage’s Campbell Cichosz delivered the backbreaker, putting the Wolverines up 4-2 at the 10:23 of the third. They would add two empty net goals and win the series on the back of a 6-2 margin. Scoring for the Norsemen were Brandon Lajoie and Broten Sabo.
The games were played at the Fogerty Ice Arena in Blaine, MN. Anchorage will face off against New Jersey for the Robertson Cup Tuesday night.
