(KNSI) — Work on Highway 23 between Foley and Milaca gets underway midweek.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says 13.5 miles of Highway 23 from Foley to Milaca will be reconstructed. The road will be closed for the project.
That includes resurfacing 12.5 miles of road from east of 13th Avenue in Foley to 120th Avenue/Rum River bridge in Milaca. Crews will also realign, widen, and add turn lanes to improve access at several intersections in Foley, Ronneby, Oak Park, Foreston, and Milaca.
Culverts and pipes beneath the road surface will be replaced, overhead street lighting and rumble strips will be installed, and guardrails will be upgraded. Curb and gutter, and storm sewers will be reconstructed. A roundabout will be added at 8th Avenue/Penn Street, and 9th Avenue in Foley will be realigned east of the roundabout. Turn lanes will be installed at Lord Avenue and 13th Avenue. A ten-foot-wide pedestrian multi-use trail will be installed along the north side of Highway 23 from Broadway Avenue to east of 13th Avenue. A sidewalk will be added along the south side of Highway 23 from Broadway Avenue to 8th Avenue/Penn Street.
Access will be maintained for those living in or working in the affected construction area along Highway 23; however, expect access and gravel surface changes.
