(KNSI) – ROCORI FFA, fresh off recognition at the state convention, is looking to keep the momentum going Saturday with a pig roast fundraiser. The event is being hosted by the chapter’s alumni and support group, which ROCORI agriculture instructor Tamara Berger classifies as small. The program used to be a cooperative effort with Paynesville, splitting off to form its own unit only recently, in the 2019-2020 school year.
Berger says the chapter has grown to 46 active members, although every one of her over 400 7th-12th grade students is officially counted as a participant. Berger’s full-time position is one of the changes made by the district to get the program off the ground. She has several other ideas to add to the base that has been established.
She says, “We have an agriculture test plot just north of the school. Also having the ability for students who want to explore a garden. We’re looking at how could we get a greenhouse and how could we maybe get a barn set up to eventually have some animals on campus.”
The dinner runs from 4:00 to 9:00 PM at the Olde Coliseum on Main Street in Richmond. Berger runs down the different activities.
“The hog roast…will have a shredded pork meal. With that meal, there will also be bucket raffles, silent auctions, and different games for little kiddos to keep preoccupied while their parents are socializing. Bingo starts at 8:00, as well as a live auction at 7:00,” she says.
