(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Agriculture announces the recipients of its Meat, Poultry, Egg, and Milk Processing Grants program, including four in the region.
Two Stearns County companies took home the largest amounts. Jenniges Meat Processing, Inc. of Brooten is receiving $100,000 to expand its processing facilities and install a smokehouse. Schaefer’s Market, Inc. in Sauk Centre is getting $75,000 to increase sausage production.
Wright and Morrison Counties had one recipient each. French Lake Butcher Shop, Inc. of South Haven will be able to ramp up production thanks to a new freezer and splitting saw. French Lake’s grant totals over $58,000. Elm Dale Creamery and Locker of Bowlus is making the most of $26,500 by purchasing a meat bulker, patty maker, meat grinder, meat saw, basket dollies, and platter dolly.
The grant program is in its first year. It handed out $709,235 to 15 separate companies across the state.
