(KNSI) — The Minnesota Board of Animal Health says highly pathogenic avian influenza is reported in 60 sites across the state, affecting 2.7 million birds.
Those sites include two backyard producers in Benton County, eight commercial flocks in Kandiyohi County, one backyard and three commercial flocks in Meeker County, 11 commercial meat, broiler, and table egg operations in Morrison County, and one backyard and seven commercial flocks in Stearns County.
Premises infected with HPAI are placed under quarantine. The U.S. Department of Agriculture works with infected flock owners to develop a depopulation plan to prevent affected birds from entering the food supply.
Highly pathogenic avian influenza was first reported in Minnesota on March 25th.
