(KNSI) — Police in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, say they have arrested a suspect in the murder of a ten-year-old girl.

Chief Matt Kelm told reporters Tuesday night that the person in custody is a juvenile known to the victim. Kelm said that it’s not going to bring Iliana ‘Lily’ Peters back or change what happened, but he was glad he could deliver the news to the family and the community, adding that he is confident there is no longer a danger to the public.

Kelm would not say how old the suspect is, their gender, or how they knew Lily but said the suspect was arrested in Chippewa Falls.
Lily’s father reported her missing when she visited her aunt on Sunday and never came home. Searchers found her bike in a wooded area near a walking path, and her body was found at about 9:15 Monday morning.

Police executed a search warrant Tuesday for “information tied to the killing” near the home of Lily’s aunt, which was also the last place she was seen alive.

Lily’s cause of death has not been released. It will be up to the county attorney to decide charges.
