(KNSI) — The Stearns County Explorer Post cleaned up at the annual Minnesota Law Enforcement Explorer Association State Conference.
They took home the Don Cup, which is presented to an outstanding explorer post every year. The group also won fifth place in the Traffic Stop Scenario, second place in Domestic Crisis, and fourth place in Interview and Interrogation.
One of the explorers, Emma, was chosen for the Nick Turcotte Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is named after a Minnesota National Guard Sergeant killed on December 4th, 2006, while on a tour of duty with the Red Bull Division on convoy in Iraq. Sgt. Turcotte was finishing his degree in law enforcement when he was called up for additional training and deployment.
Explorer Allan was also selected by the Greater St. Cloud Public Safety Foundation for a scholarship.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Program is focused on teaching young adults between 15 and 21 years of age about the first responder field.
