(KNSI) — As part of April’s distracted driving awareness month, the St. Cloud Police Department is releasing the results of their special distracted driving enforcement detail.
April 19th, officers were placed on an out-of-service Metro Bus to act as spotters to look into cars for drivers texting, emailing, surfing the web, or anything else that may have taken their eyes off the road. That information was passed to officers in marked patrol cars in the area to make traffic stops and issue citations.
Police made 22 traffic stops, which resulted in 10 citations for the use of wireless devices and three other unrelated traffic citations. Nine warnings were given for violating the hands-free law or other traffic offenses.
The officers were paid through the Toward Zero Deaths grant program.
