(KNSI) – The Crusaders baseball team dropped both parts of a double header Thursday, falling to Orono and Mora High Schools. Cathedral was lax defensively, committing a combined seven errors.

In the night cap, those errors directly played into three of the Mustangs five runs. Second baseman Nathan Nelson scooted home when an errant pickoff throw with runners at the corners got away from Cathedral first sacker Austin Lenzmeier. Starting pitcher Stephen Ellingson’s toss got all the way to the fence down the right field line allowing both Nelson and Kenneth Randt to advance. Randt scored after a throw across the diamond later in the inning short-hopped Lenzmeier and trickled away.

Cathedral put up a lone run in the second and fifth frames. Trevor Fleege walked, advanced to second on a balk, and came home thanks to a single from catcher Jack Theisen. Later, Crusader shortstop Cooper Kosiba hit a line drive single to plate Tommy Gohman.

Mora tacked on two insurance runs in the final inning, getting to reliever Jackson Henderson in his third inning of work. The final was 5-2. Cathedral only had four hits. Orono knocked off the Crusaders 6-1 in the opener.
