(KNSI) – A St. Cloud man hired to tutor junior high students has been sentenced for having sex with one of them three years ago. Leroy Leron Michael Moore, now 22, was 19 when he had sex with a 14 year old girl at North Junior High School in St. Cloud.
Moore pleaded guilty to first degree criminal sexual conduct in October. He was sentenced to a year in jail and given credit for one day. A 12 year prison sentence was stayed, meaning he won’t go to prison unless he violates the terms of his 30 year probation. Moore is also required to register as a predatory offender after his release.
Stearns County Judge Matthew Engelking granted a downward departure at sentencing. A downward departure is when a judge imposes a sentence lower than the minimum suggested by the sentencing guidelines. The mandatory minimum sentence in Minnesota for first degree criminal sexual conduct is 12 years. A second count of criminal sexual conduct was dismissed as part of the deal.
Twice in March 2019, he pulled the student out of class, took her to a classroom, locked the door and had sex with her. Another student tried to get into the classroom and found the door was locked. That student says they could hear noises coming from the classroom and knocked on the door. Moore answered and his pants were unzipped. The student could also see the victim was in the room alone with Moore.
