(KNSI) — Republican candidate for governor Rich Stanek is recovering after a crash.
The Minnesota State Patrol says Stanek was driving his pickup truck out of a church parking lot when it collided with a Chevy Malibu heading north on Highway 25 in Buffalo. That driver, a 40-year-old Clearwater woman, is expected to be OK. Stanek was taken to North Memorial in Robbinsdale, where he was kept overnight for observation.
The report says the crash happened about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, but a media release from the state patrol wasn’t sent out until 7:29 Wednesday night. Stanek is the former Hennepin County Sheriff. He lost his reelection bid to Sheriff Dave Hutchinson, whose peace officer’s license is under review after crashing his county owned squad car in December while drunk and traveling at over 100 miles an hour on Interstate 94 near Alexandria.
