(KNSI) – St. Cloud approved a distillery and event center along with redistricting for November’s election.
The St. Cloud City Council approved the redevelopment of the former Gulfeagle Supply building at 539 East St. Germain Street into a distillery called Iron Street on the first floor. It will be St. Cloud’s only distillery. The project includes a 500 person event center called Harvest Square on the second floor.
Kevin Johnson told the city council that he started dreaming of the project in 2017 and he hopes the project sparks growth in the area.
“We’re hoping this will be a catalyst for this East Side development and really bring some traffic back to an area that’s been declining over the years.”
The facility plans to make gin and vodka and serve other hard drinks and cocktails. The developers hope to have the distillery and event center open in November.
Originally built in 1928, the building once housed the truck and tractor assembly for the International Harvester company before becoming home to Gulfeagle Supply, which is a professional roofing and home contractor.
St. Cloud approved redistricting, with the most significant changes happening for residents of the Seberger Neighborhood. Due to growth in other parts of Ward 4, the neighborhood has been moved and will no longer be represented by council member Mike Conway.
“This is a personal message to the Seberger Neighborhood. I enjoyed representing you for four years. And now I’m going to turn it over.”
The neighborhood will now be in Ward 1, which is represented by Dave Masters. Ward three also lost the Centennial Park neighborhood from Centennial Drive south between 20th Avenue North to 13th Avenue North to Ward 2. St. Cloud has four wards, and each has a little more than 17,200 people.
