(KNSI) – With gas prices at an all-time high, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar is calling for Russian oil imports to be replaced with American-made renewable fuels.
The Home Front Energy Independence Act would ban Russian oil and open up the use and production of biofuels. The new legislation would make E15 available year-round, establish an E15 and Biodiesel Tax Credit and provide for biofuel infrastructure for retailers.
“This legislation will help hold Putin accountable for Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine while investing in affordable, readily-available biofuels produced in the U.S. I have long pushed for pro-biofuel policies because they are good for drivers, farmers, and the environment. It’s time for Congress to take action by passing this bill immediately,” said Senator Klobuchar.
The current excess ethanol capacity in the United States is roughly 83 million barrels. The U.S. imports roughly 87 million barrels of oil from Russia.
