(KNSI) – Stearns County is holding public input sessions on the fate of the local option transportation sales tax. The 0.25% tax has been collected since 2018 and is due to end December 31st, 2022.
Since the beginning of the tax, Stearns County has been able to add one bridge replacement, 4 intersection improvements, over 7 miles of reconstruction, and over 70 miles of resurfacing.
The board is now looking at options for the tax and is holding several virtual public input sessions.
Options include ending the tax in December 2022, extending the tax another five years, and other options for the tax moving forward.
Public input sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, March 8th at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 15th at noon, and Tuesday, March 22nd at 5:00 p.m. An in-person input session will be announced soon.
