(KNSI) – Minnesota set a new record for the most permits issued for residents to carry guns in 2021. The Minnesota Bearua of Criminal Apprehension released the data on Tuesday that showed 106,488 Minnesotans were approved to carry a gun last year. That beat 2020’s record number of 96,554 permits and more than double 2019’s total of 51,404.
The Tri-County area also set new records. Stearns County approved 3,121 permits to carry beating 2020’s record of 2,432 by 689 gun permits. Benton County approved 1,023 applications and Sherburne County approved 2,473. The top five counties with the most permits to carry were Hennepin with 16,888, followed by Ramsey, Anoka, Dakota, and Washington Counties.
According to the BCA, 387,013 Minnesotans have valid permits to carry. The Permit to Carry Report contains data on permits to carry a firearm. Minnesota does not track permits to purchase firearms.
