Clear Lake Man Sentenced for Sexual Assault

(KNSI) — A 54-year-old Clear Lake man was sentenced to three years in prison for sexually assaulting a girl younger than 15.

According to a press release from the Sherburne County Attorney, Shawn Alan Shaney had previously pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal sexual conduct. Prosecutors asked for a stronger sentence. Guidelines called for probation.

Shaney denied assaulting the girl more than once, but a search of his cell phone revealed more than 5,400 contacts in less than a month.

Judge Walter Kaminsky noted the victim’s vulnerability and the fact that she was in foster care at the time and sentenced Shaney to prison.
