(KNSI) — Three former Minneapolis police officers charged with depriving George Floyd of his civil rights have been found guilty on all counts.
J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane, and Tou Thao were all charged with depriving Floyd of his right to medical care. Kueng and Lane were also charged with failing to intervene to stop Derek Chauvin from using unreasonable force as he pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck on May 25th, 2020. In addition, the jury unanimously found the offense resulted in the death of Floyd. That could mean a significantly higher sentence, which includes life in prison. Chauvin earlier pleaded guilty to the federal civil rights charges, likely avoiding life in prison. He was convicted of murder and manslaughter by a jury last April.
Kueng, Lane and Thao will go to trial on state charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder and manslaughter in June.
The eight women and four men who made up the jury deliberated all day Wednesday and for several hours on Thursday.
